Krasnodar is the regional center of Kuban, the southernmost region of Russia.
The city is one of the most important historical and cultural centers of Southern Russian and Northern Caucus region. The city has a population of 713,426 people according to 2010 census and it is more ethnically diverse than the Russian North with many Georgians, Armenians, Chechens and Ossetians setting in the area over the years of political turmoil.
Today Krasnodar is a dynamic modern city—major industrial, agricultural, and cultural center in the south of Russia. After Moscow, it is the fastest growing region in Russia.
What To See
St. Catherine’s Cathedral
The Cathedral is one of the largest Russian churches, an architectural monument of the city. It is the center of Kuban’s spiritual life.
The decision to build the Cathedral was taken by the public of Ekaterinodar the 17th of October, 1889 – a year after the terrifying Tzar’s train accident, which the august family miraculously survived. Shortly before the emperor Alexander the 3rd with spouse and sons visited Ekaterinodar. In honor of the salvation the decision was taken to build the majestic Cathedral with seven altars. The building of the region’s largest cathedral took 14 years.
The Krasnodar Regional Art Museum Of Kovalenko
The Krasnodar Regional Art Museum was founded by Fyodor Akimovichem Kovalenko in 1904 — a Yekterinodar's art amateur, is presently one of leading museums of art of the south of Russia.
The museum collection, numbering more than 11 thousand units of issue, there are unique collections of the old Russian icon painting, domestic art of the 18th-20th centuries, foreign art of the 17th-19th centuries, Japanese xylography, and creations of the Kuban artists.The museum has officially opened an information and education center of "The Russian Museum: a Virtual Affiliate", having a huge value for popularization of the national art, historical and cultural heritage among the young people.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
Alexander Nevsky was the Duke of Novgorod and Grand Duke of Vladimir during the most trying times in the city's history. Commonly regarded as the key figure of medieval Rus, Alexander was the grandson of Vsevolod the Big Nest and rose to legendary status on account of his military victories over the German and Swedish invaders. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built in 1872. In 1937, the cathedral was destroyed. In 2006, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was restored. It was rebuilt on a new site - at the beginning of the Krasnaya street.
Monument to Catherine the Great
This is the Monument to Catherine II in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Kuban Cossack Army. At the podium - Grigory Potemkin and Cossack chieftains. At the back of the pedestal - a figure bandura (kobzar) and boy-leader.The first monument to Catherine opened in Krasnodar in 1907. In 1920, the monument was destroyed but lately in 2006 restored.
What To Do

Krasnodar has many restaurants, pubs, eateries, sushi bars, hookah bars, pizzerias, coffee / tea houses and fast food places. The predominant Krasnodar cuisine is a mix of south Russian, Georgian, Armenian and Greek flavors with emphasis on fresh local grown produce minimally spiced and mostly flavored by parsley, dill and cilantro.

Red Square Mall
Red Square Mall is the very first mall of this size in Krasnodar Krai. Built in 2003 by RAMO Group, it's still occupies the leading position among Krasnodar malls. The mall is located in the northern part of Krasnodar and is easily reachable by public transport.
How To Get There
Krasnodar International Airport, also known as Pashkovsky Airport, is located 20 minutes from Krasnodar city center. There are direct frights to Kransodar from Vienna, Prague, Düsseldorf, Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Sankt-Peterburg, etc.
There are daily flights to Moscow (flight time is about one hour and forty minutes).
The train ride to Krasnodar from Moscow takes about 36 hours, but is quite comfortable and is a great way to see some of the country and meet some of its citizens. You will arrive at Krasnodar's huge and modern new train station near the center.
The bus station has a handy touch-screen display with bus times and fares. Useful services are Novorossiysk, Anapa and Rostov.
Travelling around Krasnodar with a car offers you freedom and comfort.
How to get to Krasnodar from Sochi
The M4 / E115 road connects Sochi with Krasnodar (300 km). Normally it takes 5-9 hours to reach the city, depending on traffic.
Sochi bus services include twice-daily buses to Krasnodar. The trip takes 8 hours.
There are also 1-2 trains daily to Krasnodar (5 hours).
Ak Bars Aero operates flights between Sochi and Krasnodar. The duration of flight is 40 minutes.
